Careers in Motion: Taking Technical Education on the Road

VRSim is thrilled to see our virtual reality training technologies featured in Rutherford County Schools’ new mobile career-training trailers, an innovative initiative bringing hands-on learning directly to students. Their 3 state-of-the-art outfitted trailers include several stations featuring VR training simulations such as SimSpray Go for painting and coatings skills, VRNA CNA for patient-care skills, VRNA EMS for basic emergency response skills, and VRTEX for welding skills. These technologies help students explore key industry sectors including healthcare and STEM, manufacturing, transportation, construction, and more. By using immersive VR, students safely practice real-world skills with instant feedback, without material waste or risk, while gaining a clearer sense of possible career paths.

In a recent Facebook post, Rutherford County Schools Director Dr. Jimmy Sullivan explained that this initiative eliminates previous barriers tied to school zones. “This allows all middle school students to be exposed to the same opportunities. Instead of it being determined based by school, we can now take the opportunities to our students,” Sullivan said. Dr. Tyra Pilgrim, the district’s Career & Technical Education director, also thanked Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for the grant funding provided to each of the district’s 14 middle schools. “It allowed us to think big and creatively,” Pilgrim said according to the social media post. “For many students, this will be the first time they see how their interest becomes a career.”

For educators, mobile VR labs represent a new model of equitable, high-impact technical training. Traditional programs often require costly, stationary facilities such as paint booths, medical labs, or machine shops, but with our portable and data-driven VR systems, instructors can bring industry-level learning anywhere. Students engage in realistic, hands-on tasks that build confidence and skills aligned with real workforce needs, turning classroom curiosity into career readiness.

This project was made possible through our partnership with Jason Hines and Technical Training Aids, whose support helped bring these technologies to life in Rutherford County Schools. Together, we are redefining what career and technical education can look like. When innovation meets opportunity, schools do more than teach skills. They open doors to the future.
