At VRSim, we’re proud to support organizations that drive change in their communities. One such partner is the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation (DAEOC), a community action agency serving southeast rural Missouri. DAEOC offers a wide range of programs designed to empower individuals and help them achieve self-sufficiency. Thanks to a 2023 HRSA grant, DAEOC expanded its offerings to include EMT and CNA training, using VRSim’s VRNA to provide immersive, hands-on learning.
DAEOC’s Community Impact
DAEOC is a lifeline to its rural community, offering programs in gardening, beekeeping, home repair, culinary, computer classes, and more. They also operate Head Start schools and provide homeless services, energy assistance and weatherization support. Their mission goes beyond training, providing stipends, uniforms, daycare support, and vehicle assistance to students facing financial or personal challenges according to Annie Murphy, Adult Education Coordinator for DAEOC.
The Role of VRNA in Training
VRSim’s VRNA technology has transformed DAEOC’s EMT and CNA training. The system allows students to practice rare but critical scenarios, like delivering a baby, in a risk-free virtual environment. This has helped boost confidence and skills, with students experiencing improved results, such as one who passed a crucial retest after using VRNA.
Breaking Barriers with Innovative Solutions
For many students at DAEOC, pursuing a career in healthcare can feel daunting. VRNA’s hands-on approach helps demystify complex topics, providing visual and interactive learning that eases anxiety. Brandi White, EMT-B instructor for DAEOC, praised VRNA for being the only solution they could find that met their needs for virtual reality training, and students have loved the engaging, real-world scenarios VRNA offers.
Success Stories and Future Plans
DAEOC’s efforts have already led to success, with four students securing EMT jobs. The team is passionate about breaking down barriers to education, addressing challenges like transportation and childcare. VRSim is proud to be part of DAEOC’s journey and looks forward to supporting their ongoing mission to expand access to career training.
Together, we’re shaping a brighter future—one student at a time.
