EAST HARTFORD, CT (January, 2010) – VRSim, a leader in virtual and augmented reality training simulations, today announced its donation of a portable SimWelderTM (virtual reality welding training
system) to Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.
Located in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Whittier offers 20 Vocational Technical Programs designed to provide the necessary training and skills for personal and work force success. The portable SimWelder will be used to enhance Whittier’s metal fabrication vocational training area.
“We are proud to support the welding training curriculum at Whittier. The need for skilled welders worldwide continues to grow, so exposing high school students to the welding profession early in their
education is a way to fill the talent gap,” said Matthew Wallace, VRSim’s President & CEO. “We are grateful to have received this training tool. The opportunity for our students to experience
virtual reality training is exciting. We anticipate that it will attract students who may not have considered welding before,” said Beverly DeSalvo, Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High
School Vocational/Technical Coordinator.
The SimWelder virtual reality welding training system was installed earlier this month. Specifics of the donation include the following:
- Portable version with a specially designed travel case allowing the system to be rolled through a standard doorway
- Both GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) training capabilities
- GMAW simulation of tee welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead position for both mild steel and aluminumSMAW simulation of tee welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead position in mild steel and butt welds in the flat, horizontal, and vertical position
